Service Technician Needed In New Zealand

Key Responsibilities

  • Service and Support Customers: You’ll be the go-to person for customers across Palmerston North and the surrounding areas, providing technical assistance, maintenance, and repairs for their forklift batteries and chargers.
  • Build and Test Batteries: A key part of the role involves assembling traction batteries from components, testing them to ensure they’re performing as they should, and getting them ready for customers.
  • Diagnose and Repair: When something’s not working right, you’ll troubleshoot the issue—whether it’s a fault in the battery, the charger, or the connections—and carry out the necessary repairs.
  • Perform Maintenance Activities: You’ll handle routine maintenance tasks, including replacing worn parts, topping up cells, and checking systems to prevent breakdowns before they happen.
  • Manage Stock and Warehouse Duties: The role also includes general warehousing tasks like putting away stock, checking inventory levels, and helping out with stocktakes when needed.
  • Work Independently: Once you’re up to speed, you’ll be trusted to manage your own time, plan your days, and get the job done without someone watching over your shoulder.
  • Keep Customers Happy: You’ll communicate clearly with clients, answer their questions, and make sure they feel supported. Strong customer service is part of every interaction.

Qualifications and Experience

We’re Looking For Someone Who Has:

  • A good mechanical mind whether you’re trade qualified, have experience as a trade assistant, or just naturally understand how machinery works, we want to hear from you.
  • A current Class 2 Driver Licence you’ll be driving to customer sites, so this is essential.
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively. We need people we can trust to get on with the job.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. You’ll be dealing with customers and team members every day.
  • A well-presented, professional manner with solid customer service instincts.
  • The ability to work well within a team environment we support each other here.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, and the willingness to learn new IT systems as needed.
  • Physical strength and good manual handling skills this role involves a lot of heavy lifting, so you need to be comfortable with that.

It’s a Bonus If You Have:

  • A current forklift licence.
  • Dangerous Goods Licences.
  • Previous experience working with forklifts or batteries.
