Manufacturing Technician Needed In New Zealand

If you’re the kind of person who takes pride in making things right where precision matters and quality is non-negotiable this role could be your next move. TWS Energy Controls in Christchurch is looking for a Manufacturing Technician to join our production team. You’ll be working on high-voltage instrument transformers and metering units, the kind of critical components that keep power networks running reliably across New Zealand and Australia. This isn’t just assembly line work. It’s hands-on, detail-focused, and varied, with opportunities to learn different areas of the manufacturing process and grow your skills along the way.

About the Company

For over 40 years, TWS Energy Controls has been a proud New Zealand manufacturer, supplying utilities, industrial clients, and original equipment manufacturers across Australasia. We’re the team behind the components that help power networks operate safely and efficiently. But beyond the technical work, we’re a group of people who value craftsmanship, safety, and looking out for one another. We believe in investing in our people for the long haul providing stability, training, and a supportive environment where everyone has the chance to develop. If you want to be part of a team that takes pride in what they build, you’ll feel right at home here.

Key Responsibilities

  • You’ll work from job sheets and standard operating procedures, making sure every task meets our quality standards and nothing is left to chance.
  • Get comfortable using both powered and non-powered tools throughout the day. Whether it’s a drill, a crimping tool, or assembly equipment, you’ll handle it with care and confidence.
  • Part of the role involves mixing and working with resins, solvents, and other materials. You’ll follow safety protocols closely and treat every substance with the respect it deserves.
  • You’ll interpret drawings and specifications to guide your work, making sure components are assembled exactly as they should be.
  • Soldering, terminating wires, and putting together electrical components will be part of your regular routine.
  • A tidy workspace is a safe and efficient workspace. You’ll minimise waste, clean as you go, and take pride in keeping things in order.
  • You’ll record what goes into each job, helping us keep accurate records and maintain smooth production flow.
  • Collaboration is key. You’ll work closely with others on the floor, asking for help when you need it and offering support when your teammates need a hand.
  •  If you spot a way to improve a process or reduce waste, we want to hear it. Your input matters.

Areas You’ll Work Across

You won’t be stuck in one spot. This role gives you the chance to move through different parts of the manufacturing process, including:

  • Resin Casting using APG and hot pour methods
  • Metering Unit and Transformer Assembly
  • Voltage Transformer Winding
  • Core Manufacture and Insulation work
  • Steel Slitting and Uni Core Manufacture
  • Power Transformer Assembly

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience Helps, But Attitude Matters Most: If you’ve worked in a manufacturing or technical environment before, that’s a plus. But if you’re new to the industry and keen to learn, we’re happy to train the right person.
  • Comfortable with Drawings and Procedures: You don’t need to be an engineer, but you should be able to read technical drawings and follow structured instructions without cutting corners.
  • Eye for Detail: You notice when something isn’t quite right, and you’re not afraid to speak up or double-check your work.
  • Safety First Mindset: You understand why safety rules exist and you follow them every time. You’ll also need to agree to pre-employment and ongoing drug testing as part of maintaining a drug‑free workplace.
  • Salary Ranges 19$ per hr depends on experience
  • Team Player Who Can Work Independently: You’re happy to collaborate, but you’re also capable of getting on with the task at hand without someone watching over your shoulder.
  • Willingness to Learn: Every day brings something new. You’re open to cross-training, picking up new skills, and growing into different areas of the business.

Why Join TWS Energy Controls

  • Learn On the Job: Full training is provided on-site, so you’ll build your skills alongside experienced team members who want to see you succeed.
  • Grow Your Capabilities: With opportunities to work across multiple manufacturing areas, you’ll develop a broad skill set that keeps work interesting and opens doors for the future.
  • Stable and Growing Business: We’ve been around for four decades, and we’re still growing. Join us, and you’ll be part of a team with a solid future.
  • Supportive Team Culture: We look out for each other. Whether you’re celebrating a win or working through a challenge, you’ll have people beside you who genuinely care.
  • Pride in What You Build: The components you help create play a real role in keeping power networks running. That’s something worth being proud of.
