A kaupapa Māori mental health and wellbeing service in Ōtautahi is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to lead their Immunising Tamariki service, supporting whānau with pēpi and tamariki in the critical first 2000 days from conception to age five. Purapura Whetu Trust is a kaupapa Māori non government organisation that provides a range of free health and social support services for all ages across Waitaha. Their service, Pūmotomoto, was launched in 2019 and is grounded in the belief that tamariki are taonga, born to thrive with opportunities to develop gifts handed down from tīpuna. The name Pūmotomoto refers to the flute played over the fontanelle of an infant, chanted to impart tribal wisdom. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Immunising Tamariki service, working with pēpi and tamariki, whānau to make positive change in their lives.
- Raise immunisation rates for tamariki Māori, contributing to the government health target of 95 percent of children fully immunised at 24 months.
- Raise awareness of the benefits of immunisation with whānau and communities, fostering a multi generational commitment within whānau.
- Support equitable immunisation rates by offering flexible arrangements for vaccination services in home and community settings.
- Work collaboratively with community networks, public health teams, and other health and social service providers to ensure comprehensive support.
- Provide education and guidance to whānau on immunisation, child health, and wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring all immunisation data is captured and reported in accordance with service requirements.
Qualifications
A current full NZ driver’s license is required. Candidates must pass a police check and have recent experience working in health, social services, or education. A current First Aid Certificate is required. Candidates must hold a current practising certificate in New Zealand and have experience in immunisation practice. Five or more years of experience working in New Zealand as a Registered Nurse is preferred. Strong community networks and a reputation for effective, compassionate care are essential. Public health education knowledge and skills are required. Experience and passion working with whānau and paediatrics is essential. Antenatal experience is desirable, as is Well Child Tamariki Ora or Plunket experience. Knowledge of and experience working with the Māori community, Te Reo, Tikanga, and Kawa is important. Candidates should be confident in embedding a Māori world view into their practice.
