Key Responsibilities

As a Painter, you’ll perform a variety of skilled tasks to maintain and enhance facilities throughout the national lakeshore.

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, and patching holes or cracks.
  • Blend and match paints to achieve desired colors and effects, ensuring consistency across projects.
  • Apply coatings to various surfaces, including wood, metal, masonry, and drywall, using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
  • Perform decorative painting techniques as required, including staining, varnishing, and applying special finishes.
  • Select appropriate paints, primers, and sealants based on surface type and environmental conditions.
  • Set up and maintain painting equipment, ensuring tools are clean and in good working order.
  • Follow safety protocols when working with paints, solvents, and equipment, including proper use of personal protective gear.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure high-quality results and compliance with specifications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support facility maintenance and preservation efforts.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a skilled painter with experience in surface preparation, paint matching, and application techniques.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience performing the full range of painting duties, including surface preparation, paint mixing, and coating application.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to select appropriate paints and primers for different surfaces and conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift materials as required.
  • Willingness to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment.

Preferred (But Not Essential):

  • Experience with decorative painting techniques or special finishes.

Compensation
