Key Responsibilities
As a Painter, you’ll perform a variety of skilled tasks to maintain and enhance facilities throughout the national lakeshore.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, and patching holes or cracks.
- Blend and match paints to achieve desired colors and effects, ensuring consistency across projects.
- Apply coatings to various surfaces, including wood, metal, masonry, and drywall, using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
- Perform decorative painting techniques as required, including staining, varnishing, and applying special finishes.
- Select appropriate paints, primers, and sealants based on surface type and environmental conditions.
- Set up and maintain painting equipment, ensuring tools are clean and in good working order.
- Follow safety protocols when working with paints, solvents, and equipment, including proper use of personal protective gear.
- Inspect completed work to ensure high-quality results and compliance with specifications.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support facility maintenance and preservation efforts.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:
- Experience performing the full range of painting duties, including surface preparation, paint mixing, and coating application.
- Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials.
- Ability to select appropriate paints and primers for different surfaces and conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift materials as required.
- Willingness to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment.
Preferred (But Not Essential):
- Experience with decorative painting techniques or special finishes.
- Familiarity with working in historic or natural preservation settings.
- Knowledge of environmentally friendly paints and coatings.
Compensation
