Maintenance Technician Needed In New Zealand

Imagine a workplace where your repair skills keep a vital agricultural operation running, and where the scenery changes from a factory floor to open farmland. SunPork Group is looking for a hands-on Maintenance Technician to join our team in New Zealand. This isn’t a role stuck in one spot; it’s a dynamic position where you’ll travel across our farms, troubleshooting equipment, fixing breakdowns, and ensuring everything from water systems to feeding lines operates perfectly. If you’re a practical problem-solver who enjoys working independently and making a real difference, this is the career move you’ve been waiting for.

About the Company

As a leading force in Australasian agribusiness, SunPork Group is more than just a farming operation; we are a community of dedicated professionals committed to modern, sustainable practices across New Zealand and Australia. Our farms are state-of-the-art facilities where animal welfare and operational excellence are our top priorities. We believe in supporting the people who keep our farms running, offering stable, long-term careers in a unique and rewarding environment. Join us, and you’ll be part of a team that values your expertise, encourages ownership, and provides the variety that makes every day interesting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain Essential Systems: You will take charge of keeping our critical farm infrastructure in top condition. This includes everything from pumps, drinkers, and pipework in our water systems to the fans and controllers that manage our climate control.
  • Ensure Smooth Feeding Operations: A key part of your day will involve working on our automated feeding systems. You’ll troubleshoot and repair augers, feeders, and silos to ensure our animals receive their nutrition without interruption.
  • Prevent Breakdowns: You won’t just wait for things to break. You’ll conduct routine inspections across buildings, fencing, effluent systems, and heating equipment to identify and fix potential issues before they cause downtime.
  • Respond to Alarms: When an alarm sounds or a breakdown occurs, you’ll be the one to diagnose the fault and carry out the necessary repairs, getting critical systems back online quickly and efficiently.
  • Manage Records and Supplies: You’ll keep clear and accurate maintenance schedules and records. You’ll also monitor spare parts inventory, ordering supplies as needed, and coordinate with external contractors when specialized help is required.
  • You will strictly follow all farm safety and biosecurity protocols, identifying potential hazards and ensuring all your maintenance work supports, rather than compromises, the health of our animals and the safety of our team.

Qualifications

  • Essential Trade Experience: You hold a formal trade qualification in a relevant field such as mechanical engineering, maintenance, or fitting and turning.
  • Proven Hands-on Skills: You bring at least five years of solid experience in a maintenance technician role. Experience within a farming, agricultural, or rural environment is highly valued.
  • Strong Diagnostic Abilities: You possess excellent fault-finding skills and can methodically troubleshoot issues with mechanical and automated systems. Experience with pumps, motors, augers, or similar equipment is a significant advantage.
  • You are comfortable managing your own workload across different sites, making sound decisions on the go, and taking full ownership of your responsibilities.
  • You must have a full, clean driver’s licence, as you’ll be travelling between farm locations.
  •  Do you have welding or fabrication experience? Or perhaps a knack for electrical troubleshooting? These skills will make you stand out as an ideal candidate.

Benefits and Perks

  • A Role with Real Variety: Forget the monotony of a production line. Here, you’ll face new challenges and work on a wide range of equipment, keeping your workdays engaging and diverse.
  • A competitive hourly rate of $19.00.
  • Secure and Stable Employment: We offer a permanent position with a leading agribusiness, providing long-term job security and a steady income.
  • Ownership and Autonomy: We trust our people. You’ll have the freedom to manage your own sites and take true ownership of the maintenance program, with the support of a great team behind you.
  • Modern Work Environment: You’ll be working on modern farms with up-to-date equipment and facilities.
  • Opportunities to Grow: We are committed to helping you expand your skills. You’ll have access to training and development opportunities to further your career.
  • Supportive Team Culture: Join a team that looks out for one another, shares knowledge, and takes pride in the vital role they play in the business.
