Southern Health-Santé Sud is seeking a dedicated and experienced Supervisor – Lead Hand to join the Environmental Services team in Portage la Prairie. Key Responsibilities
As Supervisor – Lead Hand, you’ll exercise initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, methods, and actions.
- Maintain the quality of laundry and linen production, ensuring all items are processed to established standards.
- Oversee housekeeping routines and standards of practice, ensuring consistency and compliance across the department.
- Assist in the orientation and training of housekeeping and laundry staff, helping new team members succeed.
- Work collaboratively with the Manager to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.
- Determine work priorities and methods, taking appropriate action on unusual matters as they arise.
- Function in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
- Foster positive working relationships with staff, healthcare professionals, and coworkers.
- Respect confidentiality in all formats, including paper, electronic, and other mediums.
- Travel to other regional facilities as required, supporting consistent standards across locations.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years recent and relevant experience in Housekeeping and Laundry Services.
Education:
- Completion of Grade 12 education (Manitoba Standard).
- Certificate in Leadership or completion of Supervision courses.
- Other equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Knowledge and proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Demonstrated ability to use housekeeping and laundry technology, equipment, and techniques.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written directions accurately.
- Competence in handling chemicals and cleaning supplies according to defined procedures.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with others.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with staff, healthcare professionals, and coworkers.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including providing guidance and direction to team members.
- Flexibility in adjusting to a changing environment.
- Problem-solving skills appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.
- Respect for and ability to promote a culturally diverse population.
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) is essential for designated bilingual positions. If no bilingual candidates satisfy the requirement, others meeting all qualifications may be considered.
- Respect for confidentiality in all forms.
- Good work and attendance record.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1 million.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
- No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions anticipated.
- May occasionally work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Travel to other regional facilities may be required.
Additional Requirements
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check must be completed and maintained (successful candidate responsible for any service charges).
- All Health Care Workers are required to be immunized as a condition of employment, in accordance with Southern Health-Santé Sud policy.
- Three work-related references from individuals not related to you, who have direct knowledge of your current and past work performance, must be included with your application.
