Key Responsibilities

As a Laundry Aide, you’ll play an essential role in maintaining the comfort and dignity of residents through quality laundry services.

  • Assist in the collection and sorting of soiled personal clothing and linens, pre-treating stains as required.
  • Load and unload washers and dryers, ensuring proper settings are used and chemical supplies are at appropriate levels.
  • Inspect soiled linens and personal laundry, completing any required repairs such as mending rips, tears, or replacing buttons.
  • Fold, segregate, and stack linens and residents’ clothing, ironing as required.
  • Deliver clean linens and clothing to appropriate areas throughout the facility.
  • Adhere to established facility policies and procedures, including safety rules and safe working practices.
  • Complete documentation as required according to facility policy and job routines.
  • Be aware of Resident Rights and Responsibilities, striving to respect and promote them in all interactions.
  • Attend in-service training as required to better serve the needs of residents.
  • Attend staff meetings as required to stay informed of changes in the residence.
  • Participate in the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents), upholding the organization’s values and philosophy relating to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare’s Code of Conduct.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with strong communication skills, knowledge of laundry procedures, and a commitment to serving residents with dignity.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong oral and written English communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in commercial laundry procedures, including proper linen care and stain removal.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
  • Ability to follow instructions and provide feedback on a day-to-day basis.
  • Familiarity with standard sewing and mending techniques.
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Preferred (But Not Essential):

  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry laundry loads, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Physical stamina to meet the demands of a busy laundry environment.
