Key Responsibilities

Your role combines safe, efficient driving with coaching and supervision for a new CDL student.

  • Safely operate a truck while supervising and mentoring a CDL student driver during a typical 11-day over-the-road assignment.
  • Ensure the student drives a minimum of 5 hours per day, utilizing the remaining hours yourself to manage the route and schedule.
  • Provide hands-on training, guidance, and feedback on safe driving practices, regulations, and trip management.
  • Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safety policies, setting the standard for professional conduct.
  • Complete required Mentor Development Training and documentation related to student progress.

Qualifications

To be considered for this leadership role, you must meet these specific criteria:

  • You must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A).
  • A minimum of 3 months of verifiable Over-the-Road (OTR) driving experience is required.
  • You must be eligible and willing to be trained for the formal mentor role.
  • Ability to pass a DOT drug screen, comprehensive background check, and a company road test is mandatory.
  • Patience, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to teach and develop others are essential.
