Catering Assistant Needed In New Zealand

Have you ever looked at the meal tray on an aeroplane and wondered who prepared it? The answer is a team of dedicated people working behind the scenes at airport kitchens like this one. LSG Sky Chefs in Queenstown is looking for reliable and enthusiastic people to join their food assembly area. You will plate meals, prepare food items, and get everything ready for airline passengers. This is not a chef role. It is a process driven job where attention to detail matters more than cooking skills. Experience in a pick and pack or process environment is great, but what they really value is your reliability and enthusiasm. If you can work in a temperature controlled space, stand at workstations, and follow basic instructions, read on. Full time hours are available at a strong hourly rate.

About the Company

LSG Sky Chefs is an airline catering company operating throughout New Zealand. The Queenstown team is based at the airport, where they make meals, deliver products onto aircraft, and then bring back used equipment for washing or disposal. The work environment is fast paced, team oriented, and safety focused. The culture is friendly and supportive. Staff receive an attractive hourly rate, onsite secure parking, uniform, staff meals, and Boost member discounts from over 60 New Zealand suppliers. For someone who wants stable work in a unique airport setting, this is a great opportunity.

What You Will Do Every Shift

You will work in the food assembly area, plating meals according to airline specifications. You will prepare food items such as salads, desserts, and snack packs following basic work instruction documents. You will assemble equipment items including cutlery, napkins, and condiments onto trays. You will check that each meal matches the correct quantity and presentation standards. You will work in a temperature controlled environment, which may be cool or cold. You will stand at workstations for full shifts, moving efficiently to keep up with production targets. You will communicate with transport and production kitchen teams to ensure smooth workflow. You will also help with basic cleaning of your workstation and equipment at the end of each shift. You will follow all food safety and hygiene rules, including washing hands and wearing protective gear. You will also assist with quality checks, reporting any damaged or incorrect items to your supervisor.

What We Are Looking For

You need a good eye for detail because small errors can affect hundreds of meals. You must be able to work in a temperature controlled environment, which may be as cool as 4 degrees Celsius in some areas. You need to work comfortably at standing workstations for full shifts. You must be able to follow basic work instruction documents in English, including reading and writing simple checklists. Previous experience in a pick and pack or process environment is preferable but not required. Valid work rights enabling you to work full time in New Zealand are essential. You do not need a degree. You must be reliable, punctual, and able to get on with everyone because you will work closely with transport and kitchen teams. Physical fitness is required for standing and some lifting up to 10 kilograms.

Pay and Benefits

The hourly rate is between NZD 28 and NZD 28.68 per hour. That is above average for food assembly roles and reflects the airport location. Onsite secure car parking is provided. A full uniform is supplied. Staff meals are available during shifts. You also get Boost member benefits with retail discounts from over 60 New Zealand suppliers. The team culture is friendly and supportive. Full time hours are available with consistent shifts.
